PHP 8.1 Update
October 9, 2023
To keep your site safe, secure and performing well, your server needs to run the latest version of PHP. Websites that rely on this core web technology – including WordPress sites – must be updated before Nov. 26, 2023.
Version 8.1 is the currently supported and recommended version of PHP. This version will be supported with security updates through Nov. 25, 2024, while support for PHP version 8.0 ends this November 26. All older PHP versions – including versions 7.4, 7.3, 7.2, 7.1, 7.0, 5.6 or 5.4 – are no longer supported and MUST be updated as soon as possible.
Websites running unsupported versions of PHP are vulnerable to hacker intrusion, compatibility issues, and poor performance.
The latest version of PHP includes the most recent security updates to protect you and your web visitors. Current versions also provide the latest performance enhancements and upgrades to keep your site running at its best. Unsupported versions, however, are no longer updated and are therefore vulnerable and potentially dangerous.

Some web hosting companies offer legacy support allowing you to run older versions of PHP (including IONOS, our preferred webhosting partner), however this support results in monthly charges of $10 or more.
